Safety
Know the limits before you report
scan2fix is for repairs that aren't emergencies. For everything else, here's exactly what to do.
911 — Life-threatening danger
Fire, someone injured, or anything life-threatening — call 911 first. File a maintenance report afterward, if it applies.
Smell gas
1. Leave the unit immediately. Don't flip switches or use your phone inside.
2. Once outside, call your gas utility's emergency line.
3. After that, you can file a scan2fix report so your landlord has a record.
Electrical danger
Sparks, exposed wiring, a burning smell from an outlet, or a shock from touching something — cut power at the panel if it's safe to do so, stay away from the area, and call 911 if there's immediate danger.
Carbon monoxide alarm went off
Get to fresh air immediately and call 911 or the fire department. This isn't a scan2fix report — it's an emergency.
What scan2fix is NOT
scan2fix is not an emergency service and isn't monitored in real time. A report is not a substitute for calling 911 or your gas company.
